Film Deaths[]

  • The Day Will Dawn (1942) [Capt. Alstead]: Machine-gunned by German soldiers as he is sending a flashing light signal to the allied submarine. (Thanks to Brian)
  • The Bells Go Down (1943) [District Fire Officer Macfarlane]: During the London Blitz, Currie and fellow firefighter Tommy Trinder get trapped on a ledge on the top floor of a block of flats as the whole interior building collapses below them. They are resigned to their fate just before the walls fall and take them down. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Great Expectations (1946) [Abel Magwitch]: Fatally injured in a fight with another fugitive; he dies some time afterwards with John Mills by his bedside. (Thanks to Jeffrey)
  • The History Of Mr. Polly (1949) [Uncle Jim]: Falls into the river drunk and drowns. His body is washed up later and as he is wearing the marked trousers he had previously stolen from John Mills it is assumed it's Mills' body. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Treasure Island (1950) [Billy Bones]: Dies off-screen of a heart attack from fright , after John Laurie presents him with the black spot; his body was found later by Bobby Driscoll, Walter Fitzgerald, and Denis O'Dea.
  • Trio (Segment 'Sanatarium') (1950) [Mr McCleod]: Dies of a heart attack as he rises from the Bridge table exulting over his victory against rival John Laurie. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Quo Vadis? (1951) [Peter]: Executed (off-screen) by crucifixion. It just shows him, then cuts to an abrupt shot of him crucified upside down. (Thanks to Jeffrey)
  • Zarak (1956) [The Mullah]: Bludgeoned on the head with a rifle by Victor Mature (Victor then fells sorrow for his action).
  • Solomon and Sheba (1959) [David]: Dies of old age/natural causes with his son (Yul Brynner) at his bedside.
  • The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre: The Clue Of The Silver Key (1961) [Harvey Lane]: Shot with a rifle by Patrick Cargill as he sits in his wheelchair in his dining room. Patrick then wheels him outside to the terrace to make it look like the shot came from the garden. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Cleopatra (1963) [Titus the Moneylender]: Killed (off-screen) by the angry mob; his body is shown afterwards being thrown over a wall.
  • Murder at the Gallop (1963) [Old Enderby]: Dies of heart attack before falling down stairs in front of Margaret Rutherford, and Stringer Davis.
  • The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre: Who Was Maddox? (1964) [Alec Campbell]: Stabbed in the back offscreen by James Bree who uses a paperknife he had stolen from Jack Watling in an attempt to frame him. (Thanks to Brian)
