Trivia[]

  • The film director Andrew Fleming states in the DVD commentary that an MPAA PG-13 rating was sought. They followed all of the guidelines to earn that rating, but in the final outcome the film was rated R because the film dealt with teenage girls using witchcraft.
  • Robin Tunney wore an auburn wig throughout filming because she shaved her head for her role in the 1995 film Empire Records, which wrapped up a month before production started on this film.
  • Both Skeet Ulrich and Neve Campbell would later work together again in the horror slasher film Scream which was released in the same year as this film.
  • While researching on The Craft, Fairuza Balk became familiar with Panpipes Magickal Marketplace in Hollywood, eventually buying the store and continuing to operate it until 2001 when she sold it to Jymie Darling and Vicky Adams, whom she had brought in as managers after her own purchase in 1995.
  • Rachel True didn't find out that her character Rochelle's subplot had been changed until after she was cast. She was initially unsure about the racially charged bullying, but years later stated she felt it was important that the film included it.
  • All of the "teen" actresses were in their twenties at the time of filming. Rachel True, despite playing a teenage girl in the film, was almost 30 years old.
  • Although Manon is a male deity in the film, the name Manon is a common French woman's name. The connection of this name to any deity or spirit is made up by the filmmakers.
  • Years later, Rachel True opened up about how she was often ignored by the promotional materials, despite being one of the film's leads. She was forgotten by press junkets until one of her co-stars phoned the studio to get them to include her. She was also the only one of the four actresses to not be invited to the MTV Movie Awards that year.
  • There were plans to release a direct-to-DVD sequel focusing on Nancy (Fairuza Balk). These plans were dropped for unknown reasons.
  • Angelina Jolie and Alicia Silverstone were considered for the role of Sarah Bailey before Robin Tunney was casted.
